                              Reef monitoring

Reef monitoring is an important tool used to evaluate changes on the reefs over time.

This information can then be used to direct management strategies in order to prevent an eventual decrease in reef health. We use indicator species and fish families to examine changes on inshore reefs.

The monitoring methodology is based on the Reef Check protocol adapted to the local and regional environment.

In order to understand changes from a holistic perspective, we use fish belt transect, invertebrate belt transect and substrate line transaction. The results from this monitoring are used locally and are also sent to an international database (Reef Check,) to collaborate on the understanding of global reef changes.
