Marine Conservation & Scientific Dive Course

Would like to learn more?

Would like to improve your skills and engage in Marine Conservation and Marine Science?

That is your chance! 15 days of intensive learn experience in Marine Science especially dedicated for people that care about the oceans.

We offer a marine conservation course and scientific dive for organized groups from 6 to 8 people (+1 team coordinator). The course provides theoretical and practical training in scientific diving, focusing on manta ray research, reef monitoring and a range of scientific techniques commonly used by scientific divers. Due the nature of the course a min. of 15 logged dives are required. Science students and/or dedicated divers are welcome to participate.

Participants will take part of theory and practical lectures and research. The Program is divided into 2 phases. On the first week participants will join several theory classes and training dives. The normal routine of the course is a morning double tank dives followed by theory classes in the afternoon. Classes involve presentations, games and simulations.

The second week is when participants collect data that can be truly used to our conservation projects. The group will participate in reef monitoring and manta ray photo-identification. Between the theory/training week to the practical week, participants will have one day to organize themselves for the following week and refresh their knowledge observing the marine life of a large rocky pool during the low tide. The pool is full of life and a perfect open-lab in which to learn benthonic life communities.

A reserved boat will be used for the course and diving will be planned to achieve the objectives of the course. All dives will be done in partnership with Mozdivers and participants will be hosted at Zavora Lodge.

If you are interested to organize a group and get more information, please contact us by email info@zavoralab.com

We have limited spaces and only one group is accepted per month, so please book well in advance.
